Gallery in the Garden: Counterpoint
Collages, sculptures and paintings by
Camille Muller, Marlene Kawalez & Mara Schiavetto

Sherway Gardens until October 30, 2010

Sherway Gardens current Gallery in the Garden exhibit entitled Counterpoint features a collection of collages by Camille Muller, sculptures by Marlene Kawalez and paintings by Mara Schiavetto. The exhibit is on display until October 30, 2010.

In music, counterpoint is the relationship between two or more voices that are independent in contour and rhythm and are harmonically interdependent. In the visual arts, it refers to two opposing ideas working in harmony, and in art, this can come from any set of contrasting elements. This collection of Camille Muller’s musical-themed collages, Marlene Kawalez’s raku ‘Ladies in Waiting’ series and Mara Schiavetto’s florals and abstracts show three very different artists at work, while the artworks themselves create a wonderful visual counterpoint.

Sherway Gardens’ Gallery in the Garden was established to showcase local artists. The Gallery in the Garden operates all year round and each exhibit is on display for approximately 6 weeks. The Gallery in the Garden is located at Sherway Gardens’ door 3 entrance.

LOOKING FOR A RETAIL JOB
FOR THE HOLIDAYS?
VISIT SHERWAY GARDENS
HOLIDAY JOB FAIR

With the busy holiday season quickly approaching, Sherway Gardens’ finest retailers are looking for a little extra help. Visit Sherway Gardens Holiday Job Fair on Saturday, October 2 from 9:30am – 6pm in Sherway Square for the opportunity to meet with retailer representatives. Bring lots of copies of your resume and be prepared to interview on the spot!

Some of the participating stores include: Aldo, Apple, The Bay, BCBG Max Azria, Boathouse, The Children's Place, Footlocker, Hollister, Holt Renfrew, La Senza, Lenscrafters and Sears.

Sherway Gardens has prepared some helpful tips on preparing for a job fair:

1. Research participating retailers in advance. This allows you to pose intelligent questions and demonstrate your interest in the organization.

2. Dress for success. You want to leave a lasting impression so make sure your clothes are neat, clean and professional.

3. Allow enough time to visit with employers. Spend at least 10-15 minutes with an employer and visit potential employers by yourself, not with a group of friends.

4. Be outgoing and friendly when approaching interviewers. Remember to smile, shake hands firmly, and make eye contact.

5. Be ready to be interviewed on the spot.

6. Speak slowly and confidently.

7. Sell yourself to potential employers – know your strengths and weaknesses.

8. Be prepared to answer basic questions about your skills, qualifications, education and career goals.

9. Don’t be scared to ask for clarification if you don’t understand the question.

10. An interview should not be one-sided. Ask your own questions.

11. Bring a pad of paper and a pen with you to write down brief notes after each interview. Make sure to write down any points that you need to follow-up on.

12. Ask for a business card or write down the interviewers name and contact information so that you can send them an email thanking them for the interview.

13. Bring several copies of your up-to-date resume with you and make sure to leave a copy with each interviewer.

14. Let the interviewer know you are interested in the position before leaving.
